The Read Across America program will continue this year during the month
of March. As we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday, we will also be
celebrating the joy of reading. There will be one more celebration during
the month of March as we look for Leprechaun Tarnopol’s Pot of Gold in a St.
Patrick’s Day Internet Scavenger Hunt.
Our students
will be taking a cyber journey though the Circulatory System, learning how the
Heart and the other parts of the Circulatory System work. This lesson goes
along with the Physical Education Health lessons. More information about
the Circulatory System, and some other body systems, is available though the
Heart Link on the Technology Toolbox.
The sounds of math facts are heard though out the school, and it is no
different in the Computer Lab. Links for Math Facts may be found on Mister
Tarnopol’s Technology Toolbox. These drills are accessible at home as well as at
school. (Click on Math below)
The Computer Lab is expecting an exciting visitor beginning in the month
of March. Alice will be joining us as we explore the world of programming.
Alice is a teaching program that allows our students to begin to work with
programming concepts. Alice is brought to us at no charge by Carnegie
Mellon University. Information about the Alice Program, and a downloadable
free copy of Alice, is available at http://www.alice.org/ . (My students know to
ask permission before they download any programs.
We are recycling in the
Computer Lab. Ink cartridges, laser cartridges, and old cell phones may be
turned in at the collection boxes in the front lobby or brought into the
Computer Lab. In addition to saving landfill space, this recycling provides some
funds for our school. Businesses interested in assisting in this endeavor are
welcome to contact Mr. Tarnopol at ftarnopol@freelake.org.
