Mrs. Nicholas
Room 105

Dear Parents and Guardians,
WELCOME! Whether you are a first-timer in
first grade or you have been this route before, I am
happy to have you and your child in my class this year.
I look forward to a year filled with fun, knowledge, and
growth.
Our specialist schedule is included on this
site. Sometimes it helps to know what to expect on any
given day so you can prepare your child accordingly (for
example, comfortable clothes and sneakers on gym day).
Your child will
bring home a new monthly assignment sheet on the first
day of each month. Please assist him/her in completing
a minimum of 3 tasks from each row. Then, at the
end of each month, when at least 15 of the 20
tasks are done, please SIGN and return the sheet to
school. Your child receives a “homework award” and a
sticker on our “Homework Heroes” chart for each
completed monthly homework assignment. He/She is also
graded on the report card for effort in homework. Extra
credit is given to those students who complete all 20
tasks on the monthly homework sheet. In addition, first
graders will be assigned sight words to learn as well as
frequent math homework. Spelling homework will begin in
January.
First graders eat lunch every day at 11:30,
and we have an afternoon snack around 2:50. Your child
is not required to bring anything for snack time, but if
he/she does, I would ask that you keep it small and as
simple as possible. The school does not provide snack.
Please do not hesitate to jot down any
questions or concerns and send them in to me. You can
also email me (cnicholas@freelake.org)
or call me at school (508 – 763 – 5121), and I will make
very effort to respond quickly. Please note that the
voicemail feature of my classroom phone does not always
work properly. Sometimes two or three days may go by
before I receive your message. If you have a question
or situation that requires an immediate answer, I
recommend that you use email or that you send me a note.
Once again, welcome. I promise to do my
best to make your child feel comfortable and to provide
an environment which fosters confidence, friendship,
learning and fun.
Sincerely,
Christine M. Nicholas
